3D Weather Map is a hobby project run by one person, not a company. This page explains what the site collects and why. The short version: an email address only if you join the waitlist, and anonymous usage statistics.

Waitlist

If you join the waitlist we store your email address, the state or region you pick (optional), that you agreed to be emailed, and when you signed up. We store it in Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore) in the United States.

We use it only to email you about the launch and major updates. We don't sell it, share it or use it for advertising. Every email will include a way to unsubscribe. To have your address removed at any time, email 3dweathermap@gmail.com.

Spam protection (reCAPTCHA)

The waitlist form is protected by Google reCAPTCHA, which loads only when you open the form. reCAPTCHA collects hardware and software information, such as device and browser data, and sends it to Google for analysis. The Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how many people visit and which features they use, for example whether the 3D view loaded or the waitlist form was opened. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as pages viewed, device and browser type and approximate location (city level). It doesn't give us your name or email address. You can opt out with Google's browser add-on or by blocking cookies for this site.

Stored in your browser

The site remembers your settings (map style, layers, panel layout, alert preferences and alerts you've already seen) and, during the closed beta, that you've already had your preview. These are kept in your browser's local storage and a first-party cookie; they aren't sent to us.

Map and data providers

Map images come from Esri, Google and OpenStreetMap, radar files from Google Firebase, and the 3D engine (CesiumJS) from cesium.com. Like any website your browser contacts, they receive your IP address and browser details to deliver them.

Children

The site isn't aimed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.

Changes

If this page changes, the date at the top changes too.
